CHANGES ANNOUCED TO LOCAL BUS ROUTES AND TIMES IN EAST STAFFORDSHIRE AND SOUTH DERBYSHIRE

Following a review of local bus services in the East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire area by another operator, Midland Classic will be making changes to routes and times of service 21 and introducing new routes 9 and 14 from Monday 7th January 2008.

New timetables for all the alterations shown below are in the "services & times" section of this website.

SERVICE 9 BURTON - BRIZLINCOTE - A511 - SPRINGFIELD ROAD - SWADLINCOTE - MIDWAY ROAD - WOODVILLE - BOUNDARY - ASHBY

New service introduced to partially replace substantially similar service 9 withdrawn by another operator. Will continue to offer an hourly service in the Brizlincote area as well as giving Lower Midway and Granville School area a direct service to Burton and Ashby (from A511). Will also introduce regular buses into Swadlincote and Burton from the Westfields (The Beeches) and Boundary areas of Ashby.

SERVICE 14 STRETTON - BEAM HILL - WATERLOO STREET - BURTON - QUEEN STREET - ANGLESEY ROAD

New service introduced to partially replace service 5 in the Anglesey Road and Queen Street areas. Will be the only service in the Uxbridge Street/Queen Street area and will offer a direct daytime service to the Town Centre and Horninglow/Stretton. Service 14 will continue to offer daytime journeys to Stretton replacing those on services 15 and 21.

SERVICE 15 SWADLINCOTE - NEWHALL - STANTON - BURTON - STRETTON

Route and timetable withdrawn after operation on 5th January 2008. This was a difficult decision but in light of changes being made by another operator it was felt our resources would be better used in other areas which are being abandoned by them either completely or are given a reduced level of service.

SERVICE 21 SWADLINCOTE - GRESLEYWOOD ROAD - THE GRESLEYS - LINTON - STANTON - STAPENHILL - BURTON - BEAM HILL

Service increased to run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes between Swadlincote and Burton extending hourly to the Railway Station, Andressey Corner (for Queen's Hospital) and Beam Hill - with occasional journeys continuing to Stretton. It was decided to take Stretton away from the daytime service as the long route was affecting reliability. Problems in the A444 area would affect the service in Stretton and the current major roadworks in the Stretton area have affected the service in South Derbyshire. Stretton will continue to be served in the daytime by new route 14 but will only be every 60 minutes. Morning peak hours buses from Stretton to Burton will remain the same.

Owing to Gresleywood Road area being abandoned by another operator service 21 will run via Hearthcote Road (not Walton Park), Gresleywood Road, Albert Road and York Road between Civic Way and Market Street to continue to offer a service in this area. We wish to thank all the passengers on Alexandra Road who supported us from the start but we hope you'll agree with our decision and other operator's service will still be available in your area. The 0730 21 Swadlincote to Burton/Beam Hill will start from Wilmot Road/Gresley Common at 0723 and the 1715/1745 Burton to Swadlincote will continue to Wilmot Road/Gresley Common and offer a peak hour service to our regular passengers.

Service 21 will continue to serve the Sycamore Road/Brackenwood Road/Rosliston Road areas of Stapenhill.

SERVICE 21E SWADLINCOTE - THE GRESLEYS - OVERSEAL - LINTON - STAPENHILL - BURTON - QUEEN's HOSPITAL

No change to route or timetable and will continue to serve Alexandra Road.

Will continue to offer residents in the Gresley, Overseal, Linton and Stanton areas the only evening and Sunday bus service into Swadlincote, Burton and the Queen's Hospital, perfect for visiting friends, a night out or Sunday shopping.

SERVICE 129 (SWADLINCOTE) - ASHBY - LOUGHBOROUGH

No change to route or timetable.

Keith West, communications manager for Midland Classic, said "Midland Classic monitors its bus services at regular intervals, during recent monitoring the need to make changes to several local bus services has been highlighed. Travel patterns continually change so we have built our new network around them. We're sure it will more closely serve the needs of the majority of our customers and meet the region's growing travel needs and help ease congestion. We are pleased to be able to offer passengers a service in areas regarded as "dead wood" by another operator."
